Staying Motivated to Exercise in Cold Weather

Your Winter Movement Guide

Winter on the Monaro can make it harder to stay active—shorter days, cold mornings, and low motivation are all normal. But keeping your body moving through winter is one of the best things you can do for your physical and mental wellbeing. Perhaps, start by shifting your expectations. Winter routines don't need to be long or intense, instead you can aim for shorter sessions, more indoor movement, and include a mixture of exercise modes for variety.

Overcoming the Cold‑Weather Slump

  • Make it easy for yourself to start; lay out clothes the night before, keep equipment visible, put shoes by the door.

  • Use the 5-Minute Rule; commit to just five minutes, once you get going, you'll usually keep going.

  • Pair exercise with something you enjoy; podcasts, music, audio-book, catch up with a friend.

  • Focus on the post exercise feeling; improved mood, energy levels, sleep and stress.

How can I move my body indoors?

This video demonstrates some ways you can exercise indoors with minimal equipment.

Small, consistent habits make the biggest difference. Aim for movement most days, even if it’s short. Optimise times of the day when the sun is out. If you would like a more tailored exercise plan to suit your needs get in touch with our team.

Your body and mind will thank you.
